The European Studies Alliance pursues research projects that:
(1) bring together groups of scholars from Europe and the United States;
(2) encourage multi-and interdisciplinary approaches;
(3) combine theoretical structures with real public policy outcomes;
(4) are accessible to publics beyond the university.


The European Studies Alliance supports the efforts of the UW-Madison Libraries to provide a wealth of resources for those on campus who are interested in Europe. Memorial Library is an EU Depository, and has additional extensive holdings of Europe-related books, reference materials, and journals. ESA/library collaboration has been particularly strong in the development of online resources for scholars of Europe, including:


Each Center supports transatlantic and cross-disciplinary research projects relevant to its respective interests. These include


Workshops and conferences supported by ESA Centers bring internationally-recognized scholars to UW-Madison to share latest findings and often to launch new transatlantic research endeavors. More on these efforts can be found here:
