are pleased to sponsor a public forum with

Guy Neave
Professor and Director Scientific, Center for Higher Education Policy Studies,
University of Twente, The Netherlands,
and Director of Research, International Association of Universities, Paris

on

"The Responsibilities of Higher Education
in Europe and the United States:
Changing Roles, Challenges and Opportunities"

The Pyle Center, 702 Langdon Street
Tuesday, 26 February 2002
3:00 p.m.

 Respondents:

Pascal Delisle
(Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris)
Andreas Kazamias, Professor
(Department of Educational Policy Studies, UW-Madison)
Jonathan Zeitlin
(Co-Director, European Union Center, UW-Madison)

In Europe, the so-called "Bologna Process" is pushing universities to develop a common degree structure across Europe, which will have deep implications for university autonomy, labor mobility in Europe, and economic development.  Professor Neave will address the ways that changing political and economic expectations are causing change in higher education in Europe and the United States.
