A member of the German Bundestag since 1976, Karsten Voigt has held many different positions within both the Bundestag and the German Social Democratic Party (SPD), most notably as Foreign Policy Spokesman for the SPD from 1983-1998 and as a member of its Executive Committee from 1984-1995. Within the Bundestag, he held the position of Chair of the German-Russian Parliamentarians Group from 1992-1998 as well as being Deputy Member of the Defense Committee of the Bundestag.

Mr. Voigt studied at the Universities of Frankfurt, Copenhagen and Hamburg from 1960-1969 where he focused on philosophy, history and Scandinavian studies. He is a member of numerous boards and organizations, among them the German Society of Foreign Affairs, and Atlantik-Brücke.
